The Vendôme Prize - International Piano Competition
The purpose of the Vendôme Prize is to seek out, reward, support and guide future professional artists who are fully matured, technically perfect, magnetic, original and ambitious, in possession of a large repertoire and ready to endure the rigours of performance on tour. To realise its purpose, the Board of the Vendôme Prize plays an active role in both the selection and the judging process as well as in the later career management of the prize-winners. The Board is comprised of professionals who are especially committed to the long term purpose of helping young musicians to build careers. Its members include staff from the faculties of Europe’s great conservatories and music schools, concert managers and presenters, recording executives, publicists, conductors and a major figure in the aspect of classical performance chosen for each year’s competition.
The Vendôme Prize is made possible by the Alexis Gregory Foundation. Several leading European conservatories participate in the competitions: the Pesaro Conservatory of Music; the École Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot; the Roayal Academy of Music, London; the Jerusalem Music Centre; the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik; the St. Petersburg Conservatory; and the Vienna Academy of Music. Each participating conservatory selects candidates to take part in a local competition. The winner of each of these competitions goes on to participate in a two-stage final competition of which the jury is made up of internationally known performing artists, in addition to a committee appointed by the Board.
Boris Giltburg was born in 1984 in Moscow where he began his piano studies with his mother at the age of five. He currently studies with Arie Vardi in Israel.
Despite his youth, his outstanding talent has already taken him to Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Portugal and Israel and to venues such as the UNESCO and Alfred Cortot halls in Paris, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Steinway Hall in London. In 1998 he toured the United States as a soloist with the Israel Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Philippe Entremont. He has also appeared with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and with the Stuttgart and Baden Baden Philharmonic Orchestras.
