Percadu - Works for Marimba and Percussion
PercaDu
From the CD booklet:
PercaDu is a young and dynamic Israeli percussion duo that has already generated worldwide interest and enthusiasm through their unique style of virtuoso, energetic and intense playing. The name PercaDu is a combination of the words percussion and Duo. The word Du means also two in Hebrew. Since forming PercaDu in 1996 Tomer Yariv and Adi Morag won several prizes in international competitions. In 1999 they won the first prize at the Percussive Arts Society International Duo Competition in Columbus Ohio as well as the Jury Prize and the Audience Prize at the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg. During their studies Percadu was ensemble in residence at the Rubin Academy of Music at the Tel Aviv University, where it won the Academy Chamber Music Competition. In 2001 PercaDu won the Aviv Chamber Music Competition and received the Israel Minister of Culture Prize for Excellency. Since 1993 they are the recipients of scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, both as a duo and as individuals, and scholarships of excellence from the Buchman-Heyman Foundation.Tomer and Adi’s first musical encounter occurred when they met as students in the teaching studio of Alon Bor, principal percussionist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and it was under his guidance that they formed PercaDu. As young percussionists they joined the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and later were invited to play with the Israel Philharmonic under celebrated conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Genady Rozhdestvensky, Giuseppe Sinopoli and others. Percadu’s repertoire consists of works for percussion duo by contemporary composers, including new pieces that were written especially for them. In addition Tomer and Adi perform their own arrangements of classical music repertoire (including arrangements for works by Bach, Ravel and many others). Percadu is currently studying in the soloists class of the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Professor Gert Mortensen, and is represented by the Jerusalem Music Centre.
